Preserving Islamic Malay Elements in the Malay Society Fashion Apparel
Abstract
The dress dynamism of the Malay community has undergone a diverse range of changes and there are external influences such as the west and Korea in the style of adoption, which are seen as contrary to the perspective of Islamic Religious claims and Malay identity. The objective of this study is to preserve and propose Islamic Malay elements in practice. The data were obtained through library method. The elements of value, shape, style, decoration, principle, type of clothing, structure and fabric are the preserver elements. Suggestions have been proposed to preserve Islamic Malay elements in the application of fashion designers to deepen and learn the knowledge related to the limits, the concept of “aurat” and the “shari'ahs” according to the religion of Islam.The government can also organize the Muslim fashion by maintaining Islamic Malay elements in its design. Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) should review the best way to uphold the way of the Malay community by establishing a special industry to produce clothing that meets the Malay and Islamic features in its design.

Dinamisme pakaian masyarakat Melayu Kelantan telah melalui era perubahan yang pelbagai dan wujud pengaruh luar seperti barat dan Korea dalam gaya pemakaian tersebut yang dilihat bertentangan dengan perspektif tuntutan Agama Islam dan identiti Melayu. Objektif kajian ini dijalankan bagi melestarikan dan mencadangkan elemen-elemen Melayu Islam dalam amalan pemakaian. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kepustakaan. Antara elemen yang dilestarikan ialah elemen nilai dan prinsip, bentuk, gaya, hiasan, jenis pakaian, struktur dan fabrik. Cadangan untuk melestarikan elemen Melayu Islam dalam pemakaian iaitu pereka fesyen haruslah mendalami dan mempelajari ilmu yang berkaitan dengan batasan, konsep aurat dan syariat-syariat mengikut agama Islam. Pihak kerajaan juga boleh menganjurkan fesyen muslimah dengan mengekalkan elemen Melayu Islam dalam rekaannya. Kementerian pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya (MOTAC) haruslah mengkaji semula langkah yang terbaik untuk memartabatkan cara pemakaian masyarakat Melayu dengan mewujudkan satu industri yang khusus untuk menghasilkan pakaian yang menepati ciri-ciri Melayu dan Islam dalam rekaanya.
